Earlier today LEGO Marvel’s Avengers was shown off on stage at MCM Comic Con London by Game Director Arthur Parsons. During the presentation new characters were shown off along with some further information on what we can expect from the follow up to 2013s LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. One of the new characters shown off was Tony Stark’s arch enemy Crimson Dynamo. He is one of the many new faces to the LEGO Marvel world, which also includes content based on the popular Marvel TV series Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. There will over 250 playable characters, the largest amount ever to feature in a LEGO Videogame, with many more still to be revealed ahead of it’s launch on January 29th 2016.
During a Q & A with the Comic Con audience, it was also revealed Stan Lee returns as a playable character who has many useful new moves and abilities including a mustache adorned Captain America-style shield, he has also managed to once again get himself into various sticky situations in every level and is joined by The Collector who holds the games stash of Red Bricks. Once found he will bestowed upon you a quest to complete before giving you access to the goods, which can then be purchased when you visit him on Knowhere.
Much of the games storyline is based around the Marvel Cinematic Universe and begins with the opening to Age of Ultron before connecting the storyline with other areas of the universe through ‘flashback’ levels from Avengers Assemble, Thor: Dark World, Iron Man 3 and the Captain America movies. These will connect seamlessly within a massive open world, which will revisit New York along with Barton’s Farm, Wakanda, Asgard and Sokovia to name just a few. Although the story is firmly focused on the MCU side of things, the open world celebrates the rich history of the Marvel Comics. Which also provides the source for many of the the 250 characters, it’s worth noting many of these are connected to the Avengers history in some way.
LEGO Marvel’s Avengers will be playable on next weeks Bricks 2015 show in Birmingham and at Brick 2015 in London in December. Expect further details about the game during those events. LEGO Marvel’s Avengers is released on January 29th and will be available for PS4, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii U, Xbo One, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita. Unfortunately it will not be available for the Wonderswan.
