LEGO Star Wars, City and Friends Advent Calendars – Day 1

Each morning leading up to Christmas day, Brick Fanatics is cracking open all three official LEGO advent calendars to see what goodies are found within

Christmas is approaching and to celebrate the festive season, Brick Fanatics is opening up the LEGO advent calendars each day before sharing our thoughts on what is found behind the doors. Feel free to join us and share your own comments when opening up those advent calendar doors – whether you opted for Star Wars, City or Friends. You can do so on FacebookTwitter or underneath this very feature.

Advent Calendar_2017-175184 Star Wars: Micro Ghost

Anyone who has opened up a past LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar will be familiar with micro ships. These miniature models of famous, and sometimes lesser known, craft have varied widely in their excellence from year to year, and sometimes even door to door in an individual calendar. This version of the Ghost is a first and is nearly perfect in capturing its source material at this scale. While the execution is excellent, the parts are fairly standard so anyone not looking to keep it together will find little of value to add to their collection of spare pieces.

60155 City: Toy train

Much like the micro ships are mainstays of LEGO Star Wars calendars, minifigure scale, or at least close to that scale, toys are hallmarks of LEGO City calendars. Much like the Ghost day one’s door reveals a well executed little model constructed of basic parts and colours, so do this one. Due to the popularity of the Winter Village theme, more of these models are welcome to pack around Christmas Trees or in the various Toy Shop sets released through the years.

41326 Friends: Festive Stephanie

There really are some first day traditions with LEGO Advent Calendars – Friends always opens with a mini-doll, in this case Stephanie in a festive Holiday themed sweater. As the most recent addition to the Advent Calendar fold, Friends has fewer editions than City or Star Wars but all of them have started with a figure so that the later models can be played with. Fans of the theme will find a lot of use for this figure as it is long sleeved – when the majority of Friends sets include short sleeved figures – and it fits very well with the winter sports sub theme that was released earlier this year.
