LEGO Star Wars, City and Friends Advent Calendars – Day 4

Each morning leading up to Christmas day, Brick Fanatics is cracking open all three official LEGO advent calendars to see what goodies are found within

Christmas is approaching and to celebrate the festive season, Brick Fanatics is opening up the LEGO advent calendars each day before sharing our thoughts on what is found behind the doors. Feel free to join us and share your own comments when opening up those advent calendar doors – whether you opted for Star Wars, City or Friends. You can do so on Facebook, Twitter or underneath this very feature.

LEGO Star Wars fans have come to expect an ever higher degree of quality in their sets; the LEGO Group has had to continually ratchet up the detail. That higher standard makes today’s model from a galaxy far, far away all the more impressive. This tiny gun turret is perfectly executed and would make an excellent addition to an AFOL’s convention display. In terms of holding value to adult fans, it does not get much better than this from an Advent Calendar.

60155 City: Chair and lamp

Now let us crash down from that high and look at the City model. If the Star Wars gun turret represents the best of Advent Calendar models, this thing resides at the other extreme. What is this even supposed to be? A waiting room? A corner nook? Eight seemingly random, common parts assembled into something that is boring, useless to add into another model and utterly forgettable.

41326 Friends: Bunny hut

Unfortunately Friends is not much of an improvement today. Yesterday’s frozen rabbit at least gets a more comfortable home, but it should barely count as that due to being so small and boring. While our furry friend technically fits under it, this home will do nothing to protect it from the elements; though I supposed it is an improvement over the iceberg it was stuck on yesterday. I have a hunch that pets will prove to be a theme for the Friends calendar this year, we can only hope the usefulness of the models improves because this offers no benefit to AFOLs.
