LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham set to open in 2018

The new Birmingham-based LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, only the second to be located in the UK, is scheduled to open in 2018.

The Barclay Card Arena in Birmingham will house the new LEGOLAND experience, which as with the rest of the worldwide attractions, will be operated by Merlin Entertainments. It is seen as a boon to regeneration efforts in the area.

The Birmingham Mail published the 2018 opening news after speaking to Merlin representatives:

“The Legoland Discovery Centre concept has been a huge success across the globe. Uniquely, and most importantly it was always conceived and designed from a child’s perspective so it is a very special place, offering an opportunity for adults and younger children to spend fun, quality time together,” said John Jakobsen, Chief New Openings Officer, Merlin Entertainments plc.

“The Barclaycard Arena is an exciting destination with a strong tourist proposition, and in an area where we have first-hand experience through operating the SeaLife Centre in neighbouring Brindleyplace.

“These two indoor attractions together with our very popular Legoland Windsor Resort reflect the insatiable appetite for everything Lego in the UK.”

With many LEGOLAND Discovery Centres located around the world, it will give UK families another option alongside Manchester. Although AFOLs are not offered entry without children in tow, special nights are offered exclusively for adult fans to get hands-on at the attraction. Prolific builders should also stay tuned for the recruitment of Birmingham’s Master Model Builder, a coveted position that each new centre recruits.
