Seven LEGO party games for a fun children’s party

When you’re a LEGO aficionado you’ll take any opportunity to incorporate it into your daily life, even when it comes to planning kids’ (and not so little kids) parties. After all, LEGO is a great way to get kids playing together. So whether you choose to include some games in your LEGO themed party, or simply invite some of your children’s friends over for a playdate, there’s all kinds of weird and wacky games you can play.

Find the LEGO man

Simply hide LEGO figures around the room, the house or the garden and send the party guests in teams of two or three to hunt down the figures. The team who finds the most figures wins. It may be a simple game but it’s fun.

Toss the LEGO

Make graduated rings out of coloured paper and place them on the carpet. Invite the children to throw small LEGO pieces into the rings. Award points for each ring – with the smallest ring worth the most points. The child with the most points wins.

Build a LEGO house

No, not that kind of house. Play Housey, Housey or bingo with a fun printable full of LEGO characters. Instead of calling out numbers, you simply describe a piece of Lego, which the players have to match against the pictures on their bingo cards. Give prizes for vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines matched, and for the full house. You’ll find that this is not just fun for the children, but for adults too, although adults may prefer to have a real online bingo experience. If you prefer the thrill of online bingo, there’s plenty of sites to choose from, such as the one you can see here.

Towering inferno

If you’ve amassed quite a collection of bricks, why not give each child a LEGO base and a number of bricks and challenge them to build the tallest tower possible in a set time? Of course, you can make it more fun by seeing whether the towers can stand the elements. Blast them with a hairdryer to simulate a hurricane; rain storms can be created with a spray bottle, and see whether they’d survive an earthquake by tapping on the table.

Match and reconstruct

A great game for those who love to build! Put together a selection of structures. Make them as easy or as difficult as you like and then take a photo. Grade the photo according to the level of difficulty and then hand out a photo to each person. They then have a set amount of time to recreate the structure they see. If this is too difficult for young children, you may want to do it in step-by-step sequences.

LEGO and spoon race

Just like that old favourite, the egg and spoon race, the LEGO and spoon race will engage your kids in friendly competition and give them a bit of exercise into the bargain. The simplest version is just to divide the children into two or more teams. Give each team a bowl filled with the same number of LEGO pieces. They then have to transfer the pieces from that bowl to another, using only a spoon. The first team to transfer all the pieces wins! If your kids are very young, you can exchange the spoon for a cup.

Suck and ‘leggo’

Another easy game using LEGO pieces is to ask children to pick up a block by sucking it up with a straw and transferring it to a plate. The child who moves the most pieces in a minute wins.

As you can see, all these games can be adapted according to the age of the child, but they can also be played by LEGO loving adults too – so don’t forget to play them at your next LEGO themed party. There’s even a range of costumes on the way for the full LEGO party experience! Or if all else fails just get the game console out and put on a LEGO game, check out our review of Dimensions!
