Steven Spielberg’s next movie to be Indiana Jones 5

The man in the hat is back, with Steven Spielberg’s next project set to be the fifth Indiana Jones movie.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the next film for era defining director Steven Spielberg will be Indiana Jones 5. It is now ten years since the character last graced cinema screens in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a film that spent a long time in a tricky development process. This latest film is expected to be released in 2020.

LEGO Indiana Jones launched in 2008 to coincide with the fourth film, starting with a wave of sets based on the classic movies. The theme did receive a second year in 2009 with additional sets released, and somehow also managed to squeeze in two video game adaptations from TT Games.

It is understood that a fifth Indiana Jones movie was one of Harrison Ford’s sticking points when negotiating his return to the Star Wars franchise. As the second jewel in the Lucasfilm crown, it is no surprise that Disney would be happy to put such a project into development. The information currently available suggests that George Lucas will not be involved in this next instalment in the franchise.
