Valentine’s Day boosts 50 Shades over The LEGO Batman Movie

Despite beating chick lit adaptation Fifty Shades Darker at the opening weekend box office, The LEGO Batman Movie has slipped behind the female audience targeted movie after the former got a Valentine’s Day boost.

Deadline reports:

Universal is reporting $10.93M this morning for Fifty Shades Darker‘s Valentine’s Day booty which sends the sequel’s running cume to $61.4M. Meanwhile, Warner Bros.’ The Lego Batman Movie was No. 2 yesterday with $5M, putting its five-day B.O. at $60.77M. Lionsgate/Summit’s John Wick: Chapter 2 was third with $4.7M and a running cume of $37.8M.

The LEGO Batman Movie is expected to do better in terms of overall haul, has the brick based animation will almost certainly get a longer run, and with Fifty Shades Darker perceived as a date night movie the Valentine’s Day takings are likely a short term spike.
