Will this train work with just the motor and battery box? just think it would be neat around the xmas tree but not fussed about controlling it. Would just like it to move? 🙂

You will need the following additional power parts:
8879 – Controller (although not needed if you already own one)
    8884 – IR Receiver
    88000 – Battery Box
    88002 – Train Motor

Does anyone know what additional power parts I would need?

I’m happy with this and it’s a definite buy for me. Better than that disappointing re-hash from last year.

Not a bad set, but twenty pounds more for 202 fewer pieces (including two less mini figures), and half as many wagons as the one that came out in 2007.

Personally I would have paid slightly more to get a set that had at least one more wagon to put onto this (and I know I can source the parts to build my own), but I do think that this is not going to satisfy the people who were hoping to get something similar to the original holiday train and thus avoid the exorbitant prices in the after market.

    #JustSaying.
