It’s official: 21330 Home Alone is the biggest LEGO Ideas set to date

Just as originally rumoured, the newly-unveiled 21330 Home Alone is indeed the biggest LEGO Ideas set to date.

By piece count, anyway – at 27cm tall and 34cm wide and deep, it doesn’t quite beat all previous LEGO Ideas sets in all dimensions physically. But for the most commonly-used metric, and the one that even the LEGO Group mentions in its press release, 21330 Home Alone takes the crown.

And it does so by a not-insignificant 293 pieces, coming in at 3,955 bricks compared to previous record holder 21323 Grand Piano’s 3,662. And 21330 Home Alone is actually a good deal cheaper than that musical model, predominantly because its only electronic component is a light brick. (The piano, by contrast, includes a Powered Up hub, motor and colour sensor.)

While 21323 Grand Piano retails for £319.99 / $349.99 / €349.99, you’ll be able to purchase 21330 Home Alone (when it launches on November 1) for £229.99 / $249.99 / €249.99. That still makes it the second-most-expensive LEGO Ideas set, ahead of the likes of 21318 Tree House and 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay, and notably more expensive in the UK and Europe than the US.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
