Recreation of Canada’s longest train route reaches 10,000 votes on LEGO Ideas

It’s all aboard The Canadian in the latest LEGO Ideas project to hit 10K, which recreates North America’s longest train ride in bricks.

The trip between Toronto and Vancouver takes around four days, offering stunning views of booming cityscapes, rolling hills and snow-capped mountains along the way. All that would probably go just a little beyond the Ideas platform’s limit of 3,000 bricks per project, so NickLafreniere1 has wisely decided to instead immortalise the journey’s transport for his first 10K idea

VIA Rail’s The Canadian has been in operation since 1950, making it one of Canada’s most iconic trains. This LEGO version includes the locomotive and three carriages, all with full interiors: a baggage car, the Chateau sleeper car, and the Skyline dome car.

The entire model weighs in at 2,312 pieces, measuring 126cm long and 5cm wide. It’s compatible with the Powered Up system, and its creator has even proposed a bunch of accurate train sounds for the accompanying app (so you don’t have to chant ‘choo-choo’ yourself).

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
