Closer look at LEGO CITY magazine Issue 36’s free gifts
This month’s issue of the LEGO CITY magazine comes bundled with two different mini-models, including a nod to the long-dormant construction subtheme.
We haven’t seen a full wave of construction-themed sets from LEGO CITY since 2015, with only one-off sets like this year’s 60284 Roadwork Truck plugging the gap in the meantime.
That means the model attached to every copy of Issue 36 of the LEGO CITY magazine is very welcome, even if it’s only comprised of 21 pieces. The buildable digger is as basic as it gets, but the oversized loading element adds value, and the construction worker is great filler.
As often happens with the LEGO CITY magazine, this month’s copy bumps the cover price up by £1 and chucks in another foil-bagged freebie for your trouble. The exact identity of that model will likely vary from mag to mag, but our copy came with what’s effectively a police go-kart.
It’s hard to see any criminals taking this guy seriously when he’s riding around on this vehicle, but if you consider it’s only costing you a solitary pound, we’re sure you won’t be complaining.
Curiously, the item number on the foil bag wouldn’t return the instructions in the usual way, so we had to put the model together from the image on the packaging alone. It was a tough ask, but we just about managed it.
You can grab Issue 36 of the LEGO CITY magazine from all good supermarkets and newsagents right now for £4.99. Next month’s copy – which doesn’t yet have a shelf date – will include a police officer riding a motorbike.

Author Profile
- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
