LEGO Marvel 76198 Spider-Man & Doctor Octopus Mech Battle revealed

The LEGO Group’s everlasting love-in with Marvel mechs will continue later this month with the newly-revealed 76198 Spider-Man & Doctor Octopus Mech Battle.

Maybe, after two years of basically nothing but mechs from the Marvel line-up, you’ve had your fill of these super-suits. But maybe – just maybe – the LEGO Group doesn’t give two hoots, because just as it did with BrickHeadz (and looks sure to do with its helmet range), it’s going to milk that winning formula until it’s completely drained of all creativity.

That might not sound like a very positive way to introduce 76198 Spider-Man & Doctor Octopus Mech Battle, which has just popped up entirely out of the blue at LEGO.com. But it’s difficult to feel enthusiastic about yet more Marvel mechs joining the range, particularly when Spidey’s solo suit is still on shelves in 76146 Spider-Man Mech.

If you do genuinely love these mechs – and we won’t hold it against you – you can look forward to ordering 76198 Spider-Man & Doctor Octopus Mech Battle from April 26. The 305-piece set will retail for £17.99 / $19.99 / €19.99 (exactly double the price of the single mechs, natch), and includes minifigures of Spider-Man and Doc Ock. Who else?

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
