LEGO artist brings lifesize brick-built animals to Tennessee

Brick-based artist Sean Kenney’s Nature POP! exhibit features 38 sculptures, made from more than 800,000 LEGO bricks.

The majority of the builds are based around nature, with brick-built rabbits, insects, and other animals dotted around Cheekwood Estate and Gardens in Nashville, Tennessee. Kenney was inspired by the Pop art movement and sought to combine the highly stylised nature of Pop art with normal everyday forms.

The exhibit opened today on May 1 and will run until September 5, so you have all summer to head down and see the show for yourself. All the animals and other figures are located outdoors, dotted around the estate for visitors to seek out. They probably won’t be hard to find, though; Kenney deliberately used vibrant colours that don’t match the surroundings, to capture the Pop art style he admires.

Tickets must be booked in advance in accordance with Cheekwood Estate and Gardens’ pandemic restrictions. To see the sculptures, you will only need a Gardens Ticket, with none located inside the house. Members can get in for free, but non-members will need to pay $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, $16 for students, and $13 for children over the age of two. You can reserve your tickets now via Cheekwood’s website.
