LEGO Technic summer 2021 sets officially revealed
The LEGO Group has officially revealed two brand new Technic trucks – one generic, and one licensed by Mercedes-Benz.
While 42128 Heavy-duty Tow Truck and 42129 4×4 Mercedes-Benz Zetros Trial Truck cover similar subject material, however – and come in at similar piece counts – they both occupy very different roles within the wider Technic line-up.
That’s best illustrated by their price points, because 42129 4×4 Mercedes-Benz Zetros Trial Truck comes in at twice the cost of 42128 Heavy-duty Tow Truck – despite containing just 93 more pieces. We have CONTROL+ to thank for that, as the Zetros is motorised by the LEGO Group’s Powered Up components, while 42128 relies on pneumatic and mechanical functions.
42129 4×4 Mercedes-Benz Zetros Trial Truck is also the first Technic model to include differential locking – controlled by the accompanying app – which it packs in alongside four-wheel suspension, a gearbox and a spinning radiator fan. 42128 Heavy-duty Tow Truck, meanwhile, includes a six-cylinder engine with moving pistons, working steering, an articulated crane and – for the first time – a lifting axle to control additional wheels, spreading the weight of its loads.
Check out all the details and images of both brand new Technic sets below. They’re both launching on August 1, but 42129 4×4 Mercedes-Benz Zetros Trial Truck will be available to pre-order at LEGO.com shortly. We’ll update when it goes live.

Author Profile
- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
