LEGO Ideas Sailing Ship Adventure GWP rumoured for August 2021

Yan Chevalier’s LEGO Ideas Sailing Ship Adventure will apparently arrive in August as a gift-with-purchase – but you’ll need to spend an eye-watering amount of cash to take it home.

Promobricks reports that the winning ‘Build That Holiday’ contest entry will materialise as 40487 Dream Holiday Sailboat on August 1, with a limited period of availability exclusivity for VIP members. Any remaining stock will then be made available to all customers at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores from August 4.

Here’s the kicker, though: where this year’s first LEGO Ideas contest-winning GWP, 40448 Vintage Car, necessitated  a spend of £85 / $85 / €85, 40487 Dream Holiday Sailboat is thought to have a qualifying threshold of €200. It’s safe to expect parity in sterling and dollars, adding up to a significant spend total rarely required by LEGO GWPs.

You can check out Yan’s original design – which took pole position in the LEGO Ideas GWP contest in July 2020 – in the gallery above. According to Promobricks, the final model hews pretty close to this concept, including a yacht, sailor and two dolphins. The small island with palm tree apparently hasn’t made the cut, however.

We’ll confirm or deny this rumour as soon as we can, but for now, take it with the usual pinch of salt. Fingers crossed the final story involves a slightly lower qualifying spend…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
