LEGO Harry Potter 40452 Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms gift-with-purchase review

40452 Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms is a substantial and rather excellent LEGO Harry Potter gift-with-purchase, available now at a relatively low spend threshold.

With minifigures of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley and a compact but smart build, across a 16×8 baseplate that makes it compatible with the rest of the 2021 LEGO Harry Potter sets, 40452 Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms is as much a fully-fledged set as it is any sort of freebie.

Yet, the latter is what it is, currently available with LEGO Harry Potter purchases in LEGO Stores or at LEGO.com of £100 / $100 / €100 from October 25 through to November 7, or more accurately while stocks last.

Coming in a LEGO Harry Potter-branded box, built in the same boxy style and detailed aesthetic as all the other LEGO Harry Potter sets, 40452 Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms is as true and fun a realisation of a key setting from Hogwarts that we could ask for in 2021.

That is, until the LEGO Group moves away from the rigid, boxy format that room builds not otherwise coming in the book-based sets are designed in. If there’s one room to experiment with at least a corner-style box build or something more semi-circular, it’s the rounded room that is the Gryffindor Dorms, set as they are within one of the small offshoots of a tower within Hogwarts.

It’s a small complaint and one that hardly feels pertinent. If the rest of the LEGO Harry Potter sets are built in a modular, cross-set compatible way, it’s better to have 40452 Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms designed the same.

For how much of a build 40452 Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms really is, and for the relatively low price it is available at during this two-week promotional window, this is one of the best-value gift-with-purchases released by the LEGO Group not just in 2021, but in recent years.

40452 Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms is available exclusively at LEGO.com or from the LEGO Store from October 25 through to November 7, or while stocks last, given away with LEGO Harry Potter purchases of 100 / $100 / €100.

It’s perfectly timed too, with not one but two fantastic LEGO Harry Potter competitions running this same period. The LEGO Group is running a rather unique #MagicalMysteryHunt on November 6 and 7, while to celebrate that we at Brick Fanatics are running our own mini #MagicalMinifigureHunt between October 25 and November 5. Both competitions involve a keen eye and offer up some ridiculously cool prizes…
