LEGO Harry Potter 20th anniversary Ideas contest winners revealed

The LEGO Ideas team has revealed the winners of the platform’s Harry Potter 20th anniversary contest, with three incredible builds taking home Wizarding World prizes.

Launched to celebrate the boy wizard’s 20th anniversary – which has served as the basis for this year’s soft reboot of the Harry Potter theme – the Ideas contest tasked fans with creating a ‘magnificently magical creative build’ that incorporates the number 20 somewhere.

All three of the winning builds tick that box, with first and second place integrating the digits in particularly ingenious ways. Top prize goes to LEGO Ideas veteran Ivan Guerrero (also known as bulldoozer), the fan designer responsible for bringing 21324 123 Sesame Street to shelves last year.

His magical Mirror of Erised build weaves in a tapestry of iconic Harry Potter icons and moments, all laid out to represent the number 20. Ivan will now receive a substantial prize haul consisting of 76386 Hogwarts: Polyjuice Potion Mistake, 76387 Hogwarts: Fluffy Encounter, 76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets, 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition and 76394 Fawkes, Dumbledore’s Phoenix.

The two runners-up – Jon Negron and Stephanie Gitto’s HP20 – Magical Cabinet of Characters and PedroPRS.AFOL’s “Hogwarts is my home” – have each bagged a copy of 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition, along with 2018’s limited-edition 5005254 Harry Potter Minifigure Collection, which was available through Toys R Us’ Bricktober promotion.

If you’re hungry for more LEGO Ideas contests, you can currently enter a musical competition to win a real-life Fender Stratocaster, or design a video game for arcade cabinets placed in LEGO Stores around the world.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
