Based on LEGO MINDSTORMS 51515 Robot Inventor comes the neat little tribute gift with purchase 40413 Mini Robots.

From October 15 to October 25, purchases of $100 (and presumably £100) at LEGO.com or in LEGO stores will receive LEGO MINDSTORMS 40413 Mini Robots as a gift with purchase.

The boxed set has been created to publicise the October 15 release of LEGO MINDSTORMS 51515 Robot Inventor, the £329.99 / $359.99 set that includes five different designs of robots to build and operate using the MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor app. Brick Fanatics is running a competition to win a copy of LEGO MINDSTORMS 51515 Robot Inventor right up until October 21 – be sure to enter to be in with a chance of winning one of three copies available.

LEGO MINDSTORMS 40413 Mini Robots, in effect, offers a miniature version of that set – without the app functionality – with small builds of each of the five named robots: Gelo, Charlie, Tricky, Blast and M.V.P.

The builds are relatively simple and fun – even if the bags are unnumbered – and capture the basic expression and essence of each robot. Built in the same teal, black and white colour scheme as their bigger brothers in 51515 Robot Inventor, a taste of what each robot’s programmable potential within that larger set is cleverly recreated at a smaller, non-programmable scale within 40413 Mini Robots.

Each robot is its own character too, with a name and a function that in 40413 Mini Robots is more representative of what in 51515 Robot Inventor is actually programmable.

The tall robot with the flick-fire missile is called Blast, the shorter wheeled robot with the heart is known as Charlie, the multi-functional wheeled robot with ball is called Tricky, whilst Gelo is the four-legged animalistic bot, and M.V.P. is the one with the crane and stud shooters.

LEGO MINDSTORMS 40413 Mini Robots is available with purchases of $100 (and presumably £100) or more at LEGO.com and in LEGO stores from October 15 to October 25. Intended as a gift with purchase, it makes for a decent bonus, should you end up with one incidentally, perhaps when picking up the larger LEGO MINDSTORMS 51515 Robot Inventor which launches on the same day.

If it’s something you are spending $100 (and presumably £100) to pick up then it’s a significant overspend, of course.

Everything comes together enough to make 40413 a decent collectible, for the right LEGO fan, and certainly for anyone picking up the new LEGO MINDSTORMS 51515 Robot Inventor at the same time.

Attached to a required spend of £100 or $100, it’s not going to be top of everyone’s list, but, for those who do end up with a copy, it makes for a nice bonus, particularly at a comparably sizeable piece count for a GWP.
