First LEGO 90th anniversary set revealed

An online retailer has revealed the first LEGO set launching to celebrate the LEGO Group’s 90th anniversary.

LEGO Classic 11021 90 Years of Play includes instructions for 15 different mini-models, each one boiling down a regular set using basic bricks. The collection spans products from 1932 – with the original wooden duck – all the way through to 2020, with a miniaturised version of DOTS 41906 Pineapple Pencil Holder.

Along the way, it takes in almost every pivotal in-house LEGO theme from the past nine decades (but no licensed themes), including Castle, Space, Pirates, Adventurers, NINJAGO, Friends, Fabuland and even BIONICLE. The red and orange brick-built figure shares only the most passing resemblance to 2001’s 8534 Tahu, but hey, the LEGO Group is at least tossing BIONICLE fans a crumb.

According to French retailer La Grande Récré, 11021 90 Years of Play will retail for €49.99 when it launches, which is expected to be in May. The LEGO Group’s 90th anniversary falls specifically on August 10, so we’ll likely see more sets to celebrate the occasion as we get closer to that date.

Among those is rumoured to be 10305 Lion King’s Castle, which is said to be an homage to the classic 1984 set 6080 King’s Castle. This version will apparently weigh in at a wallet-busting €349.99, but that’s all we know about the set so far – if it exists at all, of course. But if it does, we may have already seen it…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

My question is really simple I like Lego and as a adult on a fixed income I am finding it a bit more on the expensive side with prices, but that does not stop. What I am disappointed toughed is that Lego seems to be getting it’s sets wrong, color or pieces missing. The worst thing was I paid $1000 au for the Titanic it had a faulty part that took 3 weeks to turn up. The other issue with it is that I am finding that the new Lego doesn’t seem to click / lock into place as well the older Lego.

So… 90 years huh… that has been a pretty long time but enjoyable one nonetheless, by the way, I wanna ask about the sets after the second one (second one’s the theme that introduced the bricks as most people know them, forgot the name tho) and the one with the horse & chariot
