LEGO offers behind-the-bricks look at 600,000-piece MYTHICA Sky Lion

The LEGO Group has shared a ‘behind-the-bricks’ look at the building process of LEGOLAND Windsor’s MYTHICA Sky Lion.

Produced by the work of 15 Model Makers across 3,000 hours, the enormous lion weighs a total of 1,520 kg. It’s made from 685,530 bricks and had to be put together using an enormous crane before being transported to LEGOLAND Windsor.

Known as Maximus the Sky Lion, the giant beast is the star of MYTHICA’s new ride, the first of its kind in the UK. To usher in curious guests, Maximus will be standing outside the ride in all his brick-built glory.

Maximus could have been even bigger if the Model Makers had needed to build an entire lion, but he actually only extends to his shoulders. This is because he is displayed against a wall, giving the illusion of flying from the building housing the experience, coupled with a decorative background.

The Sky Lion is one of LEGOLAND Windsor’s largest models, towering above both guests and other brick-built creations. You can see the entire build process in action, all the way down to the very last brick, in a video shared to the LEGO Group’s LinkedIn page.
