LEGO couple build epic Christmas display in their home

Two LEGO fans have taken festive LEGO sets to a new level, transforming their living room with brick-built magic.

In their home in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, Mike Addis and Catherine Weightman always build impressive LEGO sets with each other each year at Christmas for the last 28 years, but this year has seen them go one step further. They have built a complete Christmas scene in their living room, including an entire wall, life-size fireplace, and a towering Christmas tree.

To perch on top of the mantle, they also paid close attention to the details, building LEGO mince pies and matchsticks for brick-built candles.

“It’s quite a social thing and it keeps us warm too,” Mike told Cambridgeshire Live. “You can’t believe building LEGO, which doesn’t involve a lot of movement, would but you could actually switch the heating off.

“It’s all the getting up and down and fiddling around with the pieces. It’s amazing even in this cold weather to not have to put the wood burner on because we’re warm enough.”

The structure, which takes up much of their living room, is made of roughly 400,000 pieces and is attached to the curtain rail to keep it stable. Mike told Cambridgeshire Live that the tree was the most challenging element to build.

This also isn’t the first time that Mike’s builds have got wider attention, having built Huntingdon’s Cromwell Museum and George Hotel back in 2019.
