LEGO Monkie Kid is all about mixing models in 2023

LEGO Monkie Kid’s design team appear to be fascinated with combining builds in 2023 with four of the most recent creations mixing together.

Three of the LEGO Monkie Kid 2023 sets have a combining feature that is designed to work with another model. In the case of 80044 Monkie Kid’s Team Hideout, the product description confirms that the modular elements of the large location creation can be interchanged with another playset.

80036 The City of Lanterns uses similar modular segments, and these appear to be interchangeable with the temple, noodle shop and market stalls in 80044 Monkie Kid’s Team Hideout.

Placing the two side-by-side and changing the layout should help you depict a landscape with urban and natural features. The box art of 80044 Monkie Kid’s Team Hideout seems to suggest that these locations are near each other too, with a larger settlement behind the hideout.

However, there’s a more intrinsic combination feature in two other LEGO Monkie Kid sets, both from the latest wave. As stated in the name of the former, 80040 Monkie Kid’s Combi Mech and 80041 Mei’s Dragon Jet are designed to be put together into an even more powerful vehicle.

As mentioned in our reviews for both 80040 Monkie Kid’s Combi Mech and 80041 Mei’s Dragon Jet, it makes for an interesting result that may not be worth the asking price of both builds, depending on your preference.

Whether it be a coincidence between two groups of LEGO designers, there’s a common theme in LEGO Monkie Kid in 2023 with most of the latest range able to combine with another model. You can pick up 80044 Monkie Kid’s Team Hideout, 80040 Monkie Kid’s Combi Mech and 80041 Mei’s Dragon Jet from January 1, 2023. 80036 The City of Lanterns is available now.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
