All Toys R Us UK stores to close by April 24

The final trading date for Toys R Us UK stores will be April 24, with all locations closing by that day.

Toy World reports that the remaining 2,000 employees will be paid up to and including their final day working for Toys R Us. Although the closing dates vary by store, the final day of trading will be Tuesday, April 24. The new was confirmed by the joint administrators of Simon Thomas and Arron Kendall, partners in Moorfields Advisory Limited, as the maximum discount available on remaining stock was increased to 70%, with the price of LEGO sets now reduced by 30%.

Here are the closing dates for each store:

Simon Thomas, joint administrator and Partner at Moorfields, told Toy World: “We are grateful for the hard work of everybody at Toys R Us during this extremely difficult and challenging time. We are working closely with the 2,000 employees affected by the closures to ensure they receive the support they need for redundancy and other compensatory payments.”

He added: “The stores across the county will be open as usual until the last day of trading and we would encourage shoppers to make the most of the great deals on offer. Extended discounts of up to 70% are in place from today and offers are available on some of our best-known brands.”

Toys R Us has proven beyond saving despite efforts being made over the past six months to keep the chain going. A rescue package confirmed last October involved closing a quarter of the retailer’s UK stores, but the company did not trade well enough over Christmas to meet VAT obligations. In total, over 3,000 jobs will have been lost when the retailer closes.
