December 5 – Back to the Future – Clock Tower
The sign of a good LEGO micro build is that despite its size it is instantly recognisable and I think this build definitely meets that criteria.
I really wanted to have a micro build based around Back to the Future in this year’s advent calendar, and my first attempts at a micro Delorean were somewhat laughable (perhaps one day I will share the design so you could see just how bad it was) so I went back to the drawing board. Using LEGO Architecture 21047 Las Vegas set as an inspiration, I wondered, if there was an architecture set based on Back to the Future, what would it look like?
A couple of experiments later and the Clock Tower had taken shape. The 1×2 modified plate with a handle on one side working perfectly for the pillars of the clock tower. I have used minifigure roller skates as micro cars before and I just knew the light blue grey colour would look exactly right for the Delorean.
The only thing I could not find was a 1×1 round tile with a pattern that resembles enough of a clock face to use – if anyone knows of something that might work please do let me know.
One thing to bear in mind is that the Clock Tower doesn’t actually attach anyway to the base, but instead fits snugly into position.
