No online co-op mode for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Despite a number of new gameplay features, it seems LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga still won’t be getting an online co-op mode.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga looks set to be the largest and most sprawling TT Games title to date, with nine films to play through and an entire galaxy far, far away to explore. There will also be side quests, new aiming and combat systems, upgradeable abilities and much more.

What hasn’t yet been confirmed is whether the game will support online co-op, a mode that’s only been included in a handful of LEGO video games to date (including LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga and LEGO Worlds). LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga would be the perfect opportunity to team up with friends, but it now seems it’s a feature that will have to wait for another day.

That’s because The Family Video Game Database claims that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga can’t be played online, and will only support local co-op for two players. While this technically isn’t direct confirmation from TT Games, the developer has retweeted the site’s accessibility report for the game, essentially endorsing its info in the process.

In this current climate it would seem to be a no-brainer to include the option to play a video game together whilst being miles away from each other, but it’s a feature that TT Games is apparently still resisting implementing. It’s odd too, as other titles such as Gameloft’s LEGO Star Wars: Castaways and the LEGO Group and RED Games’ LEGO Brawls both have online multiplayer modes, so it would certainly seem to technically be possible to add it to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

It may be that an online co-op mode could be added to The Skywalker Saga further down the road as a software update, but we’re not holding our breath. With online co-op MIA, there is at least the option for players to tackle the game in local co-op. Players in the same room can team up with each other and the unique Copilot feature available on Xbox consoles even allows two players to connect their controllers together via Bluetooth to help each other out.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will finally emerge from hyperspace on April 5 in a variety of versions. Check out our full pre-order game guide to find out all of the details.

The game now stands as one of the last bastions of couch co-op I’m more concerned about that then I am it missing online it’s like xbobx expect you to buy multiple consoles multiple games and multiple live account if you want too play games with friends and siblings it’s ridicules and extortionate.

With all the new features they’re adding to this game, I really don’t want to complain about the 1 thing they didn’t add. But it’s such a no brainer to include online co-op in the age of covid that I have no idea why they didn’t do it.

LEGO Star Wars Complete Saga had online co-op when it came out on the Xbox 360 and was still live the last time I checked a few months ago

I think TT Games reluctance to add co-op online is more for the feel and atmosphere of the TT Games Lego Universe, they appear to want to give you a story you can admire, enjoy and return to both on Singleplayer and Same/Splitscreen play, however, on Steam there is a function called Remote Play, Remote Play is set up to allow you to play with friends from miles away but the game sees it as you’re playing Same/Splitscreen with said friend as if they were with you in your room, Remote Play is supported by many hundreds of games on the Steam DRM for Windows, Linux, Apple and SteamOS, IF Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga supports Remote Play on Steam then PC gamers have somewhat a chance at Online Co-op Play with people on their friends list.
