Coke bottles transform into LEGOLAND experiences this summer
Recycling Coca-Cola bottles in special vending machines can put you in with a chance of winning LEGOLAND experiences this summer
Owner of LEGOLAND and LEGOLAND Discovery Centres, Merlin Entertainments, has partnered with Coca-Cola in a new sustainability initiative that aims to help protect the planet and reduce plastic waste. This summer from July 1 until September 30, guests to a number of attractions, including LEGOLAND Windsor and LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham, will be in with a chance of winning VIP experiences in exchange for recycling an empty 500ml plastic bottle. Visitors will be able to responsibly dispose of the bottle at specially-designed reverse vending machines.
The activity is part of Coca-Cola’s mission to collect and recycle a bottle for every one it sells by 2030. One of the experiences available to win includes a shark feed at the Deep Sea Adventure at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort in connection with the Sea Life Trust.
Merlin has been collaborating with Coca-Cola on these vending machines since 2019 and has collected and recycled over 100,000 plastic bottles. With 28 reverse vending machines at 11 participating Merlin Entertainments attractions, there are plenty of opportunities for members of the public to get involved, including at LEGOLAND Windsor and LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham. Each vending machine has unique branding for each of the prizes. Machines can also be found by asking a member of the attraction’s team or using the individual attraction’s app, guiding people through the parks to recycle their bottles and enter the VIP competition via a website printed on the receipt after recycling.
“Plastic waste remains a long-term environmental issue and we are committed to raising awareness and helping establish solutions to address it,” said Dare Ilori, Group Sustainability Director at Merlin Entertainments. “As a global company, we’ll always seek to reduce our impact on the environment with clear, measurable actions.
“Now we also encourage our guests to respect their own environments and do the right thing for a sustainable future. We are proud to partner with Coca-Cola again on this brilliant initiative and to educate our guests to reduce, return and recycle their plastic and protect our planet.”
