Could 2022 be the year of LEGO Batman?

Following a relatively quiet year for LEGO DC sets, 2022 is potentially shaping up to be the year of the Batman.

Last weekend’s DC FanDome showcased a number of exciting upcoming movie projects including Black Adam, The Flash, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Shazam: Fury of the Gods. However, DC saved the best for last with a stunning reveal of a new trailer for The Batman.

Glimpsed in the footage were scenes, characters and vehicles from the forthcoming 76179 Batman & Selina Kyle Motorcycle Pursuit, 76181 Batmobile: The Penguin Chase, 76183 Batcave: The Riddler Face-off and 42127 The Batman – Batmobile sets. DC also revealed a first look teaser of The Flash movie, featuring the 1989 version of the Caped Crusader.

This leads to an interesting scenario for fans of the Dark Knight Detective as there could be at least three minifigure versions of Batman released in 2022, compared to a relatively quiet 2021. This year saw the Christian Bale version of Batman appearing in 76240 Batmobile Tumbler and 76239 Batmobile Tumbler: Scarecrow Showdown.

Next year promises to be even more exciting with the release of the previously revealed LEGO The Batman sets featuring Robert Pattinson’s Batman, glimpses of Michael Keaton’s 1989 version in The Flash trailer and rumours that Ben Affleck’s take on the character will also appear in the film. Both Keaton’s and Affleck’s Batman have appeared in multiple LEGO sets, but there’s a chance we could see them in brand-new costumes with accompanying minifigures.

In addition, there’s also been word that LEGO Batman Beyond sets may also appear in 2022, making next year a potentially wallet-busting year indeed for Bat fans.
