LEGO Island-Fans haben das lange verschollene Spiel vollständig dekompiliert
Eine Gruppe von engagierten LEGO Island fans has painstakingly rebuilt the long-lost LEGO Island game – only for a twist in the story to appear.
LEGO Island is an open world action-adventure game, developed and published by Mindscape and released for Windows in 1997. Players could explore the island as one of five specially created minifigure characters, as well as build vehicles and complete side quests, with the central plot involving Pepper Roni, a pizza delivery boy who featured recently in LEGO Fortnite.

Although the game has long since been lost to the ages of video games and is no longer playable on modern computers, a team of dedicated fans have been trying to rebuild the lost source code, with hopes of remastering it to play again. The process has been documented over the last two years by YouTuber MattKC – and has now finally come to an end.
“Shortly after the LEGO Island decompilation was completed, a LEGO employee reached out to me asking if I could help them find more LEGO Island development material for their internal archives,” MattKC said. “I sent them some stuff that I’d obtained over the years, and pointed them in the direction of where they might be able to find more.”
However, this is where a twist comes into play. While it doesn’t undo all the hard work that MattKC and the others have put into decompiling the game, it certainly is an ironic turn of events.
“A little later on, I was told that they had actually managed to find what seems to be a copy of the final retail source code – and no, we can’t have it,” the YouTuber explained. “It’s incredibly ironic that part of the reason I started the decomp all those years ago was because we had all assumed the source code was lost forever, and only after the decomp is finished does someone actually find a copy.”
MattKC doesn’t seem hopeful that this means we might see an official remaster, noting that this was just the actions of one employee, rather than a company-wide interest in the long-dormant game.
“But hey,” he joked. “If they ever do decide to do that and need some help, I know some people who are already familiar with the code and what would need to be done to make it more compatible with modern PCs!”
