Disney asked designers to rename the new LEGO Star Wars Slave I

One of the new LEGO Star Wars sets revealed at LEGO CON is named a little differently than it has been in the past, with Disney helming the change.

LEGO Star Wars 75312 Boba Fett’s Starship might not carry the name that builders have recognised since its introduction in The Empire Strikes Back, ditching the Slave I moniker for a more generic title.

During LEGO Fan Media Days, there was plenty of opportunities to ask designers and other members of the LEGO Group questions for sets both old and new. Jedi News were in attendance at the event and decided to ask some of the LEGO Star Wars design team why exactly needed to be made.

“It’s probably not something which has been announced publicly but it is just something that Disney doesn’t want to use anymore,” said LEGO Star Wars Design Director Jens Kronvold Frederiksen.

We can imagine that Disney isn’t attracted to the unique name of the ship with their audience of all ages and we’ll have to see if this decision is reflected in the movies as well as merchandise.

LEGO Star Wars 75312 Boba Fett’s Starship will release on August 1 for £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99 and contains a brand new minifigure for the bounty hunter as well as Din Djarin from The Mandalorian. You can find out more in our in-depth review.
