Eleven-year-old builds LEGO set underwater

A scuba diver, aged just 11 years old, has built a LEGO set underwater to raise money for the NHS.

Sophie O’Dea, at just 11 years old, is raising money for her local NHS hospital trust. Her method of fundraising was to build a LEGO aeroplane 14 metres underwater at Capernwray Dive Centre in Lancashire, UK.

She took 44 minutes to build the model on top of a sunken twin engine plane, Divernet reports.

“It was good but cold,” she said. “The hard bit was getting down because I couldn’t equalise, but the dive was fun…. I feel good that I did it, and so proud of myself.”

During lockdown, the young diver has been practicing in an inflatable pool in her garden.

Her JustGiving page has raised £600 so far.

A range of LEGO City underwater sets launched recently, including 60263 Ocean Mini Submarine, 60264 Ocean Exploration Submarine, 60265 Ocean Exploration Base and 60266 Ocean Exploration Ship, all with a diving focus. National Geographic has collaborated with the LEGO Group to help ensure there are authentic details in the new sets.
