Familiar children’s book has chance at LEGO Ideas set
Hopefully there’s no food in the second 2023 LEGO Ideas review, as a familiar and very hungry caterpillar has reached 10,000 supporters.
Based on the familiar book by Eric Carle written in 1969, The Very Hungry Caterpillar has gained the support of 10,000 LEGO Ideas users, passing it into the second 2023 review round.
Using just 350 pieces, the project by Lyonsblood joins a submission based on Dr. Seuss in the first 2023 review. We’ll have to see whether either of these children’s book-centric projects can prove worthy of a future LEGO Ideas model.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar proposes the titular caterpillar as the brunt of its build with plenty of options to pose it and re-enact the book. Also featured are an apple, pear, plum, strawberry and orange inspired by the illustrations and complete with a hole in each, just like in the book.
This is the 30th project in the second 2023 review round, which continues to grow with months remaining until it stops accepting entries. Here’s a reminder of what’s in the running for a future LEGO Ideas model.

- LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
