First look at LEGO CITY 60291 Family House

An early review shows off a cheaper way to fulfil your homeowner fantasies with upcoming 2021 set LEGO CITY 60291 Family House.

If the real-world housing market is too depressing to bear, a tiny plastic version might be the perfect alternative. You can’t live in it, but your minifigures can. And if the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that living vicariously is almost as good as actually living… right?

Fortunately, you don’t need to have gone loco in lockdown to appreciate what 60291 Family House can bring to your LEGO layout. The 388-piece set will launch in 2021, and combines the new road plate system with what’s ultimately a façade of a house, in step with previous LEGO CITY homes.

There’s clearly a lot going on here, though, from the street hockey game, allotment and electric car charging point outside to the video game console, radio and stickered details inside. YouTuber just2good has managed to get his hands on an early copy of the set from US department store Kohl’s, giving us a better look at what we can expect next year.

While there’s plenty to love about 60291 Family House, just2good concludes that there’s simply not enough of it for the price. “I’m not in love with this set,” he says. “I like what they were doing here – I like the build of it, [and] it looks great from the exterior. It’s just the interior feels so cramped.”

Check out just2good’s full review in the video above. 60291 Family House will launch on January 1, 2021 for £44.99 / $59.99 / €48.73.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
