First look at LEGO LGBTQIA+ set 40516 Everyone is Awesome

The first reviews of the LEGO Group’s first LGBTQIA+ set 40516 Everyone is Awesome are already online, showing off the colourful creation ahead of its release next month.

Revealed just yesterday, Matthew Ashton’s celebration of diversity and inclusivity will be arriving on shelves on June 1 for just £30.99 / $34.99 / €34.99. But while you wait to get your hands on your own copy, you can already check out the set’s 346 pieces and 11 monochromatic minifigures in an early review from Brickset.

While it’s clear that the rainbow-coloured set doesn’t offer the most involved building experience, that’s not why you’re buying 40516 Everyone is Awesome (if you are). Instead – as Brickset’s photos prove – it’s all about the display model that those bricks build into, acting as a tribute to and celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community across its 11 different colours.

As Brickset’s review reveals, however, the set actually includes 12 colours in total. Squirrelled away in the pillars that form the backdrop for the monochromatic minifigures are a handful of tan pieces, which act as structural reinforcement for that smooth, studless display.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then. You can follow me on Twitter at @brfa_chris.
