Five compact LEGO sets to display in small spaces

If you want more LEGO sets than you have space for, these five compact sets might scratch that building itch without taking up too much room.

Once you’ve been collecting LEGO sets for any amount of time, you’ll soon find yourself relegating old favourites to dusty corners to make room for newcomers. Even if you’re just starting out with your first sets, finding enough room to properly display them is a neverending battle between your wish list and your shelf space.

However, that doesn’t have to mean you need to put your LEGO collection on pause. Instead, here are five compact sets that can slot into any number of small spaces.

5 – 31207 Floral Art

The majority of LEGO sets are usually displayed on shelves, with the exception of the rare few like UCS Millennium Falcon that suit gravity-defying stands. That leaves a prime area of LEGO real estate untapped: bare walls.

LEGO Art has a number of sets that are just a couple of centimetres thick and can be hung directly on the wall. 31207 Floral Art is a particularly savvy choice because you essentially get three sets in one, with enough studs to recreate all of the images in the above image. At 40cm high and 27cm wide, it doesn’t even take up too much space on the wall, making it an ideal choice for a space-saving collector.

4 – 42130 BMW M 1000 RR

While 42130 BMW M 1000 RR might look large, its narrow width means it can easily slot into a cosy space. At 27cm high, 45cm long, and 17cm wide, it will take up far less room on a shelf than other LEGO sets of a similar piece count just shy of 2,000 bricks.

For such a small set, you get a good-looking bike, packed full of features like the three-speed gearbox, steering, front and rear suspension, chain transmission, and four-piston engine. Complete with its own stand, 42130 makes for an easy addition to a growing collection.

3 – 76217 I am Groot

Aside from the fact that he’s completely adorable, 76217 I am Groot is tall and thin, making him another compact addition to a shelf. If you can stop Baby Groot from dancing all of his posable limbs around, he will stand just 26cm tall.

As a display set, 76217 is the gift that keeps on giving. Because every one of his limbs can move and bend, you can reposition the set into whatever pose you like, allowing you to reinvent your display whenever you feel like it. At £44.99, 76217 is pretty reasonable in both price and the amount of shelf space he takes up.

2 – 10280 Flower Bouquet

10280 Flower Bouquet is perhaps one of the most versatile LEGO sets out there, spotted at weddings, on date nights, and various other creative spots. As far as saving space goes, the set only takes up as much space as any regular bunch of flowers would when gathered together into a vase.

Plus, you can even split up the flowers to make it even more compact and dot each one in a different place around your home. Each one is a different size, but the longest (the snapdragon) is still only 36cm long.

1 – 75304 Darth Vader Helmet

We’ve named 75304 Darth Vader Helmet here, but realistically any one of the LEGO Star Wars helmets is a great collector’s item that doesn’t take up too much space. Measuring just 20cm high,15cm wide, and 14cm deep, they’re a smartly compact size to tuck onto the end of a shelf.

Of course, the only danger with the helmets is that they really do look best lined up together…which might result in you buying all of them and taking up more space than you bargained for. If you ask us, it’s worth it.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.

I feel as though the miniature Disney castle is worthy of this list.
