Five exciting new LEGO reveals from New York Toy Fair 2020

New York Toy Fair has given fans the opportunity to see new LEGO products for the first time – here are five of the most interesting reveals

Every year, the toy fair season wraps up with New York Toy Fair. After giving just a few hints rather than all-out reveals at the London and Nuremberg events, the LEGO Group has unveiled a few new products at the US fair. Here are five of the new reveals that will be of the most interest to eager LEGO collectors.

LEGO Star Wars 75287 D-O

Since the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi sets, the LEGO Group has been releasing regular character sets. These sculptures, roughly in scale to one another, take the saga’s smaller characters and give them a LEGO makeover. So far, 75187 BB-8 (review), 75230 Porg and 75255 Yoda (review) make up the series.

In April, 75287 D-O will be added to the line-up. The challenging shape of the new droid introduced in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been captured, with a sandy base to keep the character upright.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 20

They are back! While licensed series of the long-running blind bags are popular with some, there is something special about 16 new LEGO original characters. Well, fairly original, as the Red Ranger looks mighty familiar.

New costumes that will surely be popular include Pea Suit Girl and Llama Costume Girl. There are also some nice nods to the LEGO portfolio, including Pirate, Rocket Boy and Knight. To acknowledge the decade-long run that this theme has had, a ‘10’ tile is included with Green Brick Suit Guy.

LEGO Star Wars 75292 The Razor Crest

With Star Wars: The Mandalorian arriving shortly before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released in cinemas, the wave of LEGO Star Wars sets arriving before it focused on the film rather than the series. Since the November launch of the live action show, fans have been clamouring to get The Razor Crest.

Thankfully, LEGO.com is taking orders on the newly announced 75292 The Razor Crest, which will be released on September 1. While it is disappointing that the Mando minifigure is not wearing the Beskar armour, it is very pleasing to see the Child turn up in the set as a LEGO character.

LEGO Minions: The Rise of Gru sets

Five new sets make up the new LEGO Minions theme that is launching ahead of the release of Minions: The Rise of Gru, all of which have been on display at New York Toy Fair. They are varied and wacky, as would be expected from the comical yellow characters.

75551 Brick-Built Minions and Their Lair is probably the most interesting of the bunch, as it builds two Minions that look great for display, but also open up at the back to reveal little playsets within.

LEGO Marvel Spider-Man 76151 Venomosaurus Ambush

The LEGO design team has been having fun with the stranger aspects of the Marvel universe for a while, and 76151 Venomosaurus Ambush definitely ticks that box. Building a huge Venom-coloured dinosaur for the villain and some new weird vehicle for Spider-Man, it offers the fun factor that some of the more po faced movie inspired sets lack.

What will be the biggest talking point around the set though is sure to be the inclusion of a Spider-Ham minifigure, complete with new head mould. Worryingly, the character was displayed holding a hot dog…
