Friends actor behind Gunther finds being a LEGO minifigure “flattering but weird”

James Michael “Gunther” Tyler has commented on his minifigure in LEGO Ideas Friends 21319 Central Perk, declaring it “flattering but weird”.

James Michael Tyler is the actor who played Gunther, the barista with an unrequited love for Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel, in the phenomenally successful sitcom Friends. His character appears in the recently released LEGO Ideas Friends 21319 Central Perk set.

In an interview with Nine Entertainment, the actor commented on the release: “About three weeks ago a friend of mine texted me one morning and said, ‘Dude, you’re a LEGO’, and I thought that that was maybe a millennial insult. I thought that must be something terrible and I said, ‘What do you mean?’ and he sent me a photo of a LEGO Gunther.

“I didn’t know anything about this so I went online and sure enough LEGO released a Central Perk set and they included a Gunther. Then I got a tweet from the creator of LEGO and he said, ‘It would not be Central Perk without Gunther so we included you in the set’. I’m like, ‘Well what else can I possibly do in my life right now, I’m a LEGO’, but yeah it’s kind of weird. Flattering but weird.”

He is not the first actor to have commented on LEGO Ideas Friends 21319 Central Perk, with Matthew Perry, who played Chandler on the show, also having shared his reaction.
