Has LEGO cancelled VIDIYO?

A new rumour suggests that the musical mayhem of LEGO VIDIYO is over and that the theme has been ‘paused’ or even possibly cancelled, following just two waves of sets.

Promobricks is running the line that the LEGO Group is no longer making the third wave of sets from the theme available to retailers, and that orders already placed can be cancelled. This will likely affect the sale of the upcoming 43108 Bandmates Series 2 if true.

It is also understood that the theme, which was only launched in February of this year, has been cancelled, or as Brickset suggests, ‘potentially paused’.

The first wave of sets released to sharp discounts from day one but was quickly followed followed by a second wave and the news that character, DJ L.L.A.M.A., is to go on a worldwide tour, and that VIDIYO would be part of an upcoming pop-up event across the UK, no doubt to promote the musical models.

The cancellation of LEGO themes is nothing new for the LEGO Group, but it’s an undoubtedly rare occurrence for the company to act so early after launch – others such as Hidden Side have naturally ended following the closure of their story and a longer run for products on shelves.

Sets in production or set for release are also rarely cancelled, but there are examples through the LEGO Group’s history of this happening. It’s as of yet unknown whether or not 43108 Bandmates Series 2 will still receive a full release, a partial one, or none at all.

We’ll keep you updated as this story develops but currently there has been no official announcement from the LEGO Group regarding the future of VIDIYO. Until such time, treat this information as a rumour.
