Huge price increase rumoured for LEGO Marvel 2023 mechs

Next year’s rumoured trio of LEGO Marvel mechs are said to be arriving with a huge price bump in January, perhaps reflective of recent price increases.

According to listings published by brickmerge (and now corroborated by Promobricks), the first batch of LEGO Marvel sets on the cards for 2023 will include three more miniature mechs. That follows the template originally established by 2020’s 76140 Iron Man Mech, 76141 Thanos Mech and 76146 Spider-Man Mech, and implemented every year since.

But while all nine previous mechs at this size have launched at £8.99 / €9.99 / $9.99 apiece, offering pocket money-priced entry points to the LEGO Marvel line-up, next year’s 76241 Hulk Mech, 76242 Thanos Mech and 76243 Rocket Raccoon Mech are rumoured to retail for a whopping €14.99 each. That’s an enormous 50% uplift on the price tags of past mechs.

If we’re giving the LEGO Group the benefit of the doubt, it could be that the size of the mechs themselves are increasing, or will otherwise include multiple minifigures or builds. But with one eye on other recent price increases, it’s also entirely plausible that the mechs will match their predecessors in size and format – only at one and a half times the price.

We won’t know for sure until the LEGO Group officially unveils its Marvel roster for 2023, which may or may not include mechs for Hulk, Rocket Raccoon and Thanos. For now, they’re still just rumours, so take them with the requisite grain of salt until confirmed otherwise.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
