Indiana Jones and the Sanctum of the Golden Angels

Clearly Indiana Jones did not learn his lesson during his adventure at the Temple of Doom, as once again a rope bridge is between him and his prize

The Sanctum of the Golden Angels was often believed to be mere myth and hearsay wrapped in the tales told by many a weary traveller or explorer. These stories told of the treasures that could be found there for anyone brave and daring enough to attempt the perilous ascent to find this sanctuary.

Our favourite archaeologist, Indiana Jones, couldn’t resist such a challenge and began to piece together clues alluding to its location. Three months into his expedition he ascended yet another tree expecting it to be fruitless only to find himself stood in front a bridge leading to the ruins – he stood for a moment to assess the situation and consider what booby traps may greet him on the other side…

This was great fun to build and equally as tricky. The build hasn’t been Photoshop’d in any way and is as fragile as it looks. During the build process, I held up the sanctum part of the build with three supports to avoid it collapsing every time I placed a brick. Once removed, the bridge and tree provided much need stability while I photographed it.

The rear of the tree is supported by 2×4 bricks and the fragile rock beneath the sanctum is also supported – I thought about the angle at which this would be shot so that they wouldn’t be seen. This is a great luxury when you’re building to photograph rather than display.

I love building in minifigure scale and this was a chance to use some of the wonderful accessory parts such as treasure chests, parrots and goblets that the LEGO Group has produced. I wanted to a use varied palette of colours in this build, especially a contrast either side of the bridge.

Enjoy!
