Seven LEGO Star Wars helmets we still need

The LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection has had a promising start with five total sets making up the collection, but there’s still plenty more headgear from a galaxy far, far away that we still need.

When you think of Star Wars, it’s hard not to picture at least one of the franchise’s iconic helmets, whether it’s from a Clone Trooper, Bounty Hunter or any other of the galaxy’s armoured misfits, there’s plenty of Sci-Fi helms to go around.

So far, the LEGO Group have managed to touch on five of them, with four from the empire and the illustrious Boba Fett forming the first wave of this new LEGO series.

While no others are currently confirmed for the future, there’s a wealth of helmets for the LEGO designers to transform, and here are seven that would make great LEGO sets.

7 – Kylo Ren

Starting the list in the sequels is the black-robed leader of the Knights of Ren, Kylo Ren. This character’s helmet has seen two iterations, with minor design differences between them.

Through The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, the mask was mostly kept intact, its black design keeping in with the rest of the dark side’s colour scheme but with a hint of silver running through it.

In The Rise of Skywalker, the mask was pictured with red cracks lining the surface, something that could be achieved with the use of transparent red tiles placed on their side through the build. Kylo Ren’s helmet has become recognisable within the Star Wars universe and could set itself apart from the rest of the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection.

6 – Din Djarin

Also known as the Mandalorian, this character is the star of the popular Star Wars streaming series and has gone on to become a cultural icon.

The helmet of the bounty hunter featured in both seasons of the show and has a particular shine that could be easily achieved with the use of some silver metallic bricks.

The build would probably be like 75277 Boba Fett Helmet in its structure, but this could be an opportunity for the LEGO designers to reinvent the build. The LEGO Group has already shown a fondness for creating sets on the Star Wars series with the recent 75299 Trouble on Tatooine, so maybe this LEGO Star Wars helmet isn’t all that far-fetched.

5 – Bo-Katan Kryze

Another Mandalorian gets the fifth spot in our list, also featuring in the popular Star Wars show. While similar in structure to both Boba Fett and Din Djarin’s iconic headgear, the design of this helmet is far different to either.

The owl-like symbol on the front of the armour is indicative of her role in the all-female elite unit of Mandalorian warriors known as the Nite Owls and remained a part of her and her squad’s armour throughout the Clone Wars and beyond.

The design is one that admittedly only the most devoted of Star Wars fans will recognise but would make for an interesting challenge for the LEGO designers to conquer.

4 –  501st Legion Clone Trooper

Really, any Clone Trooper could fit into this role but if the LEGO Group were to produce a Clone Trooper LEGO Star Wars helmet, the 501st Legion would make almost too much sense.

The 501st Legion has proven popular amongst the Star Wars community, even leading to a LEGO set dedicated to them. Their most recent appearance was in the seventh season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with a new design that paid respect to Ahsoka Tano.

We can imagine either design working well for a LEGO helmet, with both the blue and orange making for a striking look on the iconic armour.

3 – Captain Phasma

Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma is another character taken from the sequel trilogy of Star Wars films. She wielded a quicksilver baton against members of the resistance while suited in a set of shining First Order armour.

The Chromium armour that the Captain wears could be achieved with any silver bricks, just like what has been done with the minifigures. However, only the rare drum lacquered silver could truly achieve the chrome effect.

A set with as many drum lacquered silver elements needed would likely beat 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery for the highest number of pieces in the colour and might admittedly be expensive for the LEGO Group to pursue. However, it would no doubt be the perfect solution for a Captain Phasma LEGO Star Wars helmet.

2 – General Grievous

Technically, General Grievous’ cyborg head isn’t exactly a helmet. However, there are few designs out there quite as recognisable as it and it’s perfectly suited for the LEGO helmet treatment.

The design would make use of plenty of angled pieces, capturing the mix of metal and skin that makes up the character. Having the piercing yellow eyes would be especially important, and possibly achievable with some LEGO claw and transparent dome pieces.

General Grievous is easily one of the most popular characters in the Star Wars franchise and has been given plenty of attention from the LEGO Group so far with both a minifigure and buildable figure, but we wouldn’t complain about one more set based on the four-armed cyborg.

1 – Boushh

The final spot on our list is one that you may have forgotten about. Boushh was a Bounty Hunter who found himself felled at the hands of the Black Sun crime syndicate, leaving the identity as a great disguise for Princess Leia to sneak in and save Han Solo from the clutches of Jabba the Hutt.

The helmet of Boushh is easily the first thing that many fans will think of when imagining the character, with a single visor on the brown, respirator-like design.

A LEGO helmet of Boushh could be an interesting call-back for the most devoted of Star-Wars-lovers, maybe even the perfect subject for a future May the Fourth promotional model.
