LEGO Friends TV show GWP rumoured for June

A Friends TV show-themed gift-with-purchase is rumoured to be on the way this summer, tying into the upcoming release of LEGO 10292 The Friends Apartments.

Instagram user briqfoundation reports that a Friends-themed mug will soon be available as a freebie through LEGO Stores and LEGO.com. At the moment, it’s not clear whether this will be an actual ceramic mug with a LEGO Friends design, a buildable LEGO mug, or something closer to the plastic, oversized minifigure accessory mugs currently sold through official channels.

What’s perhaps more surprising is that briqfoundation claims the mug will actually be free with purchases of 2019’s 21319 Central Perk, the original LEGO Ideas set inspired by the much-loved sitcom, rather than the newly-revealed follow-up set 10292 The Friends Apartments.

That seems like a strange decision given gifts-with-purchase tied to a specific set typically incentivise purchasing brand new models, so we’re treating that particular part of this rumour very lightly – just as you should this entire story, until the LEGO Group officially confirms otherwise.

The same user reckons that the alleged mug may drop in June, which is when 10292 The Friends Apartments goes on wide release (following its debut for VIPs tomorrow, May 19). We’ll keep you in the loop if and when we hear anything official.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
