LEGO Ideas celebrates International Day of the Girl 2021

LEGO Ideas is celebrating International Day of the Girl 2021 in its latest activity, which is now open for submissions.

In 2011, the UN declared October 11 as ‘International Day of the Girl Child’, aiming to recognise the rights of girls and the unique challenges they face. The LEGO Ideas team is now honouring that occasion through its newest activity, which calls on fans to build something to celebrate International Day of the Girl 2021.

That’s as narrow as the brief gets, which is to say it’s absolutely wide open. You could come up with your own model from scratch, or rebuild an existing set into something that focuses more closely on girls – it’s really up to you. As in all LEGO Ideas activities, though, steering clear of licensed minifigures and parts will allow the team to share your work on their social channels.

There’s no prize for taking part here – compared to, say, LEGO Ideas contests – beyond your own sense of self-satisfaction, and knowing you’ve helped to bring awareness to an incredibly important global issue. For more on International Day of the Girl, check out the UN’s website, which goes into detail on all the other, non-LEGO ways you can get involved.

You’ve got until October 5 at 9am UK time to submit your build to LEGO Ideas. Head over to the activity page to read all the rules and see the submissions so far.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
