LEGO Marvel 76178 Daily Bugle is a dream set for its designer

The designer behind the newly-revealed LEGO Marvel 76178 Daily Bugle has explained why the towering skyscraper is his ‘dream’ set.

Mark Stafford – the AFOL-turned-designer who’s also been responsible for 76143 Avengers Truck Take-down and 76165 Iron Man Helmet, along with models across Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Ideas and more – is the man behind the set that instantly takes the crown for the biggest Marvel Super Heroes product to date.

It’s not the sheer size of 76178 Daily Bugle that fulfilled a longstanding dream for Mark, though. Instead, there’s a very particular design point near the top of the 82cm-tall model that he was incredibly excited to bring to life in the capacity of an official set.

“I was seven years old when I was given my first Spider-Man comic, and I have always had an image of creating a LEGO model of the Daily Bugle and having Spidey and his Amazing Friends in conflict with his various enemies,” Mark explained.

“One of my favourite elements is the Green Goblin flying inside the building through the window. Being able to design a moment of frozen action like this in a LEGO set has always been a dream and I finally got to make it happen!”

You’ll be able to recreate that explosive moment for yourself when 76178 Daily Bugle arrives on shelves on May 26, exclusively for VIP members. Everyone else will be able to pick it up from June 1 at LEGO Stores and through LEGO.com.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
