LEGO 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell enters Brick Fanatics’ Top 20 LEGO sets

There’s a new contender in the ring in Brick Fanatics’ Top 20 LEGO Sets List, as 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell shoots straight for the podium.

Available from today for LEGO VIP members, 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell recreates the elven kingdom across 6,167 pieces – and does such a good job that it’s rocketed straight up our Top 20 LEGO Sets List, which tracks the very best LEGO sets currently available to buy at LEGO.com in the UK.

In fact, the Middle-earth model is so good that it’s already sitting pretty at second place, behind only LEGO Star Wars 75313 AT-AT. Both of those sets offer very different experiences – one’s a colourful location, the other’s a big grey vehicle – but are each so impressive that they’re very difficult to separate.

For us, the four-legged walker still keeps its crown for the sheer feat of engineering that it represents, but it’s a very close call. What speaks more to Rivendell’s quality is the calibre of sets that it’s leapfrogged on its way up the Top 20, displacing 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle, 75192 Millennium Falcon and 10497 Galaxy Explorer.

Those are all fantastic LEGO sets, a fact that hasn’t changed as of today – but 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell is just so good that it’s surpassed them anyway, at least in our book. Make sure to check out our full review of the LEGO Icons set for a more detailed explanation of why it’s so deserving of its silver medal.

10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell is available now for LEGO VIP members, and until midnight March 7 includes a free copy of 40630 Frodo & Gollum. The £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99 set also qualifies for 40583 Houses of the World 1, which is available with all orders above £220 / $250 / €250 until March 12.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
