LEGO 1989 Batmobile sells out permanently – Barracuda Bay to follow?

LEGO Batman 76139 1989 Batmobile has sold out for good online following weeks of unavailability – and 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay could be next.

Both of those sets are retiring by the end of 2021 (at least according to Brick Fanatics’ sources), and both have spent much of the latter half of the year temporarily out of stock. In fact, 76139 1989 Batmobile hasn’t been available to purchase since October 4, suggesting that ‘temporary’ label was a bit of a misnomer.

LEGO Ideas’ mammoth ode to Pirates, meanwhile, has been out of stock since August – bar a very fleeting reappearance yesterday – and could therefore soon follow the Batmobile in slipping straight from ‘temporarily out of stock’ to ‘sold out’, a label that indicates a set generally isn’t coming back.

Consider this likely one of your last warnings to grab 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay before it sets sail for the great LEGO retirement home on the horizon – advice that would probably be more helpful if the 2,545-piece set was actually available to purchase at LEGO.com. But we can help there: just sign up to our stock alerts and we’ll let you know if and when it returns.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
