LEGO Ideas 21335 Motorised Lighthouse isn’t the first LEGO lighthouse
LEGO Ideas 21335 Motorised Lighthouse is the most accurate LEGO lighthouse, but it’s not the first with others from NINJAGO, Scooby-Doo and more.
21335 Motorised Lighthouse launches on September 1 as the latest addition to LEGO Ideas and the most recent model of the crucial coastal warning system. Lighthouses aren’t uncommon builds by any means for the LEGO Group, appearing in a wide variety of other themes both licensed and original.
While we wait for the release of 21335 Motorised Lighthouse, let’s explore the unusual mix of themes that these buildings have had a major model in. Starting in Creator in 2011, 5770 Lighthouse Island was a simple but recognisable depiction of a lighthouse and includes many similar features to 21335 Motorised Lighthouse such as the rocky island, the seagull and the boat.
Pirates of the Caribbean also received a LEGO lighthouse in 2011 in the form of 4194 Whitecap Bay. Aside from the drastically different appearance from the other 2011 lighthouse, it was notable for using a LEGO magnifying glass to focus the light, which would eventually lead to the working LEGO Fresnel lens in 21335 Motorised Lighthouse.
Another licensed LEGO lighthouse appeared in 2015 with LEGO Scooby-Doo’s 75903 Haunted Lighthouse and another ghostly model showed up in 2020 with 70431 The Lighthouse of Darkness as part of Hidden Side.
Original LEGO themes with lighthouses include Friends and even NINJAGO with 41380 Lighthouse Rescue Centre and 70594 The Lighthouse Siege respectively, both approaching a LEGO lighthouse with a different design and aesthetic suitable for the theme, showcasing the different approaches design teams can have to a simple building.
Now, in 2022, 21335 Motorised Lighthouse is launching on September 1 for £264.99 / $299.99 / €299.99 as the largest and most accurate LEGO Lighthouse ever.
