LEGO 31313 MINDSTORMS EV3 retiring soon

In news that will surprise no-one, a new generation of MINDSTORMS means that LEGO 31313 MINDSTORMS EV3 is marked for retirement.

LEGO.com has updated the status of 31313 MINDSTORMS EV3 to ‘retiring soon’, the Brick Fan reports. That means when the current stock runs out, the set will no longer be available.

In the UK, 31313 MINDSTORMS EV3 is already sold out at LEGO.com, but is still available from Amazon. US fans can still get it from LEGO.com.

The news is entirely expected, as 51515 Robot Inventor was announced a few weeks ago, offering a new iteration of the LEGO coding experience. There is no fixed launch date, but it is expected before the year is out.

31313 MINDSTORMS EV3 builds five different robots and includes instructions or inspiration for many more. There is a thriving part of the LEGO hobby that sees fans making incredible moving creations using the system.

51515 Robot Inventor will not be compatible with EV3, Senior Design Manager Dan Meehan confirmed. “We have now moved to the LPF 2.0 platform so this has the same interface as BOOST and Control+ and the Powered Up components but the hardware isn’t compatible with EV3.”
