LEGO 40516 Everyone is Awesome may get a wider launch in 2022

The LEGO Group says 40516 Everyone is Awesome – its first set for the LGBTQIA+ community – may be getting a wider launch next year.

At the moment, 40516 Everyone is Awesome is only available to buy through official retail channels, including LEGO.com and LEGO Stores (although not in every country, as the company has recently addressed). That means you won’t find it through third-party retailers, such as Amazon, Smyths or Walmart.

According to a statement published on the LEGO Ambassador Network, that decision was taken because Vice President of Design Matthew Ashton’s model represents ‘new territory for the brand’ – but it could yet change for 2022.

“We have been amazed by the positive response so far and are currently assessing whether to make [40516 Everyone is Awesome] more broadly available in 2022,” the statement reads. “Unfortunately, it’s too late to change launch plans for 2021 as volumes have already been produced.”

While next year may see the currently-exclusive set hit third-party retailers, then, your only option for grabbing it in 2021 is by picking it up in an official brand store or ordering through LEGO.com, where it’s available for £30.99 / $34.99 / €34.99. The 346-piece set is currently on back order in the UK and Europe, but will ship by June 10.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
