LEGO 40581 BIONICLE Tahu & Takua gift-with-purchase revealed

The LEGO Group’s next retro gift-with-purchase will bring back BIONICLE in 40581 BIONICLE Tahu & Takua, a brick-built pair of classic constraction characters.

Available from January 27 with orders above £90 / $100 / €100 , 40581 Tahu & Takua reimagines two of the theme’s most iconic characters with traditional System bricks. They’re anchored around ball joints originally created for LEGO Mixels, which should you give some idea of the scale being employed here.

The 219-piece set, as revealed in early reviews from LEGO Fan Media such as BrickNerd, includes a surfboard and display stand for Tahu – the leader of the original six Toa Mata – while Takua, a colourful Matoran, can attach to the larger figure’s back. The characters’ masks are captured through slope elements with unique prints.

40581 BIONICLE Tahu & Takua will arrive in a box intended to conjure up memories of the original plastic BIONICLE canisters, which are obviously not compatible with the LEGO Group’s ambition to make all its packaging sustainable by 2025. You’ll be able to get your hands on it from January 27 through February 9 (or while stocks last), with orders above £90 / $100 / €100. The exact themes included have yet to be confirmed.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
