LEGO NINJAGO 71799 NINJAGO City Markets minifigure guide
Figuring out who’s who in LEGO 71799 NINJAGO City Markets may be confusing for casual fans, so here’s a guide on exactly who’s included.
With an incredible 21 minifigures coming with LEGO 71799 NINJAGO City Markets, no detail has been spared for the new LEGO NINJAGO set, which comes under the Dragons Rising category. The huge array of minifigures included many of the familiar well-known faces, but there are a few less obvious characters in there too.
To help those who might need a little extra information on keeping track of everyone in the set, here’s our guide to all of the minifigures that are included with the set.
Lloyd
Lloyd Garmadon, the current leader of the LEGO NINJAGO team, is the green ninja and also became the legendary Golden Ninja for a time. While we’ve seen many minifigure versions of Lloyd in the past, this is one of the first times we’re seeing him in his ninja outfit from NINJAGO: Dragons Rising.
Nya
Nya is the Elemental Master and Ninja of Water, and her blue suit as well as the beauty spot under her eye make her instantly recognisable. Nya’s older brother, Kai, is also in the set. She’s known for being independent, intelligent, and good with technology. She’s also the girlfriend and Yang (akin to a love-related relationship, but not quite considered the NINJAGO version of marriage) of Jay Walker, the Ninja of Lightning. However, he’s not in 71799 NINJAGO City Markets apart from a nanofigure alongside Cole.
Zane
Zane is the Elemental Master and Ninja of Ice and is instantly recognisable because he’s entirely silver. The reason for this is that he’s a Nindroid (ninja-droid), an android created by inventor Dr Julian. Unlike Lloyd and Nya, he isn’t wearing his White Ninja outfit but instead has his detective outfit, including a fedora (identical to the one he had as a detective in the Ninjago Confidential episode from Season 12) and a suit that’s also almost identical to the one he had in the show.
Kai
Kai, the older brother of Nya and Elemental Master and Ninja of Fire, is another prominent character from the NINJAGO series. Seen in this set with his trademark spiky hair and brown overalls, Even without his usual appearance, Kai can also be easily recognised because he’s a fan of red, as we can see with his bandana. He’s known for being tough, brave, and often a bit of a hothead. Here he’s pictured as a blacksmith, which was his profession before becoming a ninja. While the outfit isn’t the same – it’s similar to his clothing in March of the Oni.
Arin
Arin is one of the new faces that we’ll be seeing in Dragon’s Rising, and as a result, we don’t know a lot about him so far. However, we do know that he’s a ninja. Like Kai, he’s not in his ninja outfit but instead has an orange shirt on. Orange seems to be the colour we’ll come to associate with Arin, particularly looking at his outfit in the new series poster.
Sora
Sora is the other new character for Dragon’s Rising. She has pink hair, a golden arm, and glowing eyes in the new LEGO set. From the little we know so far, it seems that Sora could be from the realm Imperium, and from set 71792 Sora’s Transforming Mech Bike Racer we know she has a pretty impressive bike. From what we know so far she and Arin are Lloyd’s ninja students, but we’ll have to wait for the series to find out more about that. Her hair is notably different from the animated iteration.
Miss Demeanor
Miss Demeanor (as you may have guessed from the name) is a criminal who has appeared in several NINJAGO episodes. She’s the fifth NINJAGO character to have a mohawk, and the only one to have the hairstyle in red. In 71799 NINJAGO City Markets, we see her wearing a grey one-piece style outfit with red flame detailing, reflecting her fiery personality as a self-confessed “city girl”.
Hounddog McBrag
As the Marshal of the NINJAGO City Police, Hounddog McBrag has a horseshoe moustache and aviator sunglasses on his minifigure, with his gold badge front and centre on his chest. Like Miss Demeanor, this is the first time we’re ever seeing him in a LEGO set, and this is, therefore, his initial minifigure. He first appeared in NINJAGO in Season 15.
Chamille
Chamille is the Elemental Master of Form (an element in NINJAGO) and has thick purple hair and a purple outfit to match in 71799 NINJAGO City Markets. She was first seen in Season 4 of NINJAGO: Masters of Spinjitzu. There were some fan concerns about how her minifigure would look, and from what we can see so far she does appear to be missing her face mole. However, her hair piece appears to be spot on.
Dareth
Dareth, the Brown Ninja who doesn’t have any powers, is in the new City Markets set, and it isn’t his first appearance as a minifigure. This will be his fourth version, with a new outfit representing his Laughy’s uniform. His most recent minifigure before this was in 2018 in 70657 NINJAGO City Docks.
Cyrus Borg
Dr Cyrus Borg is the head of Borg Industries and is an ally of the ninjas. We haven’t specifically seen Cyrus Borg as a minifigure but we have seen him as the transformed minifigure OverBorg in 70722 OverBorg Attack, where he had a mechanical spider in place of the wheelchair he usually has, as well as a completely different hairpiece to represent the change in the character. In 71799 NINJAGO City Markets, he has his standard outfit and black turtleneck (which being printed onto his shirt naturally doesn’t cover his neck, but props for trying).
Blazey Hyper Speed
Seen for the first time as a minifigure, Blazey Hyper Speed (formerly named Racer Seven) was a character introduced in NINJAGO in 2020. Her minifigure has short hair and, very unlike her appearance in the show, she’s wearing a black BIONICLE shirt with a flaming Kanohi Hau, or Mask of Shielding. Maybe this is just to show that she’s a BIONICLE fan in her free time but either way, it’s great that she now has an official minifigure.
Gayle Gossip
Another aptly named character, Gayle Gossip, is a NINJAGO news reporter. She’s been a highly anticipated character to finally get a minifigure, and 71799 NINJAGO City Markets gives her a fairly accurate representation, although we will say that the hair is a little off. However, she does have both of her usual necklaces, glasses, and standard colour scheme, so everything mostly makes sense
Vinny Folson
Alongside Gayle, Vinny Folson is a cameraman who’s also been a recurring NINJAGO figure. He’s seen here for the first time as an official minifigure with his usual blue cap and cameraman ID card on his chest. His blue jacket is fairly close to how it should look in the show but seems to be a little more unkempt at the bottom. His ID card also has an added red strip on the top for a little more colour.
Other characters
No lively city market could be complete without some random characters in the background to bring the scene to life, and 71799 NINJAGO City Markets gives us exactly that. Alongside the other characters, we see a sushimi chef with a small Sushimi design on his white overalls (the actual Sushimi minifigure is in the now-retired LEGO NINJAGO set 71712 Empire Temple of Madness).
There’s also a baker, a boat vendor, an elderly street vendor, a Borg Store employee (as evidenced by the logo on her blue shirt, a tea vendor, and a dojo kid in a red and white outfit.
While we still have a bit of time before 71799 NINJAGO City Markets is released, there’s still plenty to look at for the time being. The set will be released on June 1 for £319.99 / $369.99 / €369.99, alongside a whole selection of new LEGO NINJAGO sets.
